EXPECTATION FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

Support the organization’s mission, vision and values by adhering to the behavioral standards of Bay Area Hospital. Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from various backgrounds are critical.

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Serves as one of the initial contacts for patients and others visiting the hospital. Directs and escorts patients to their appointments/destinations within the hospital.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets, assists, and directs patients and visitors at the Information Desk in the main lobby
  • Escorts patients and visitors to their appointments/destinations within the hospital when possible/appropriate
  • Answers Auxiliary phone line, and tracks and delivers flowers
  • Uses EPIC to provide information on patient room numbers to visitors
  • Uses wheelchairs to escort patients and visitors and/or assist with discharges (only if wheelchair competency has been obtained through the hospital)
  • Retrieves wheelchairs and returns them to the wheelchair alcove
  • Locks cabinet(s) located near desk before ending shift
  • Maintains a clean and neat work area
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Adheres to hospital/departmental policies and procedures and meets annual educational requirements
  • Skill in performing tasks in a professional and helpful manner
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with hospital staff and the public
  • Must be physically able to conduct duties

REQUIREMENTS

  • Active member of the Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance
  • Clear Occupational Health and Background check requirements for role prior to start date
  • Must complete Orientation
  • Must complete on-floor training
  • Must have a completed Competency Checklist within a reasonable amount of time (form #8375-17)

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience communicating with patients, customers, or the public preferred

GENERAL INFORMATION

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements

  • Requires extensive standing, walking, and bending over
  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds and push a cart weighing up to 40 pounds
  • May be required to push patients in wheelchairs up to 250 lbs
  • Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment
  • Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or telephone

2 Shifts

  • morning / 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • afternoon / 12:00 PM to 04:00 PM
