VITA Volunteers work for tax justice and financial stability/mobility for low-income households. United Way of Greater Nashville (UWGN) partners with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide free tax preparation and electronic filing. There are over 25 in-person traditional and drop-off sites in Middle Tennessee. UWGN is the Tennessee State Lead for GetYourRefund.org, a national coalition of VITA partners providing virtual tax preparation.

During Tax Year 2020, 130 volunteers filed over 6500 tax returns for low-income families who received over $8.8 million in tax refunds. Taxpayers saved an estimated $1.8 million in preparation fees. That is tax justice.
