ORGANIZATION: Mile High United Way

Make a difference in your community - and have some fun while you’re at it - by volunteering with Tax Help Colorado! On average, every hour volunteered with our program puts $1,400 back in the hands of hard-working families. You’ll help families living on low-income claim valuable tax credits, which are proven to make them more financially secure.

Whether you’re a CPA with years of tax experience, or still ask your parents to file your return, Tax Help Colorado needs your help. There are a variety of volunteer roles for different experiences and interests, and we offer training to ensure you’re prepared. We also offer virtual trainings and volunteer opportunities that can be completed from the comfort of your own home!

Description

For 125 years, Mile High United Way, the first United Way in the country, has been a catalyst for social change.

Mile High United Way lives at the intersection of the private, public, philanthropic and nonprofit sectors. Today we work with hundreds of local nonprofit partners, government agencies, policy-makers and businesses to deliver services in three key areas of investment:

  • Mile High United Way’s School Readiness Initiative provides thousands of children from low-income families access to high-quality early education so they enter school ready to learn and read at grade level by the end of the third grade.
  • Mile High United Way’s Youth Success Initiative provides thousands of school age, low-income and at-risk students access to mentoring, quality afterschool programs, tutoring and dropout prevention, gang and violence intervention programs to ensure that they succeed academically and graduate from high school.
  • Mile High United Way’s Adult Self-Sufficiency Initiative devotes resources to programs that help low-income people increase financial skills, develop workforce experience and move toward economic self-sufficiency.
We are an effective and strategic leader known for bringing individuals, organizations and funding sources together to serve as a catalyst for social change, achieving long-term collective impact on a community-wide scale
