Cancer Support Community Arizona is looking for individuals to help with our next in-person volunteer opportunity. The dates for this opportunity are 12/7/2021 from 10:00am-11:00am and 12/9/2021 from 3:00pm-4:00pm.

The digital sherpa(tm) Program aims to help CSCAZ participants and their families become more tech-savvy. Volunteers will help educate participants and care partners in basic internet and social media skills to help them in their search for information about their illness and support for them and their families.

After CSCAZ participants, known as "Climbers" in the program, have completed an online course, they will be paired 1-on-1 with volunteers, known as "sherpas", who have been specially trained by the Patient Empowerment Network to offer skills such as:

• Internet use (such as opening an email account, navigating Google, signing up for classes on the CSCAZ website, and creating and remembering passwords)
• Social media skills (including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram)
• Creating virtual connections with other cancer patients via on-line patient support communities
• How to use apps such as Uber and other ride-share services to get to appointments

By producing this program, we want to show what can be done to help participants and their families become more tech-savvy, educated, self-confident and in control of their cancer journey. By pairing tech-savvy volunteers with the older generation, we hope to create an empathetic and powerful relationship that is an asset to any community.
