ORGANIZATION: Metropolitan Family Service

Social Purpose Works (SPW) is the latest innovative program offering of Metropolitan Family Service (MFS), a Portland social service agency since 1950. SPW recruits pro bono (volunteer) professionals for nonprofit project-based opportunities in Oregon and SW Washington.

SPW is recruiting for a pro bono Strategic Planning/Business Planning expert for The Oregon Child & Family Services Council/Oregon Alliance.

The Alliance is a small, member-driven nonprofit association of 40 diverse organizations serving more than 100,000 children, youth and their families at home, in school, in residential settings, and within communities across the state. They join with dedicated community leaders, partners in government, allied fields, and membership to advocate for and deliver effective policies, best practices and resources.

Project Description: There is a severe sense of urgency and demand for organizations who serve children, youth and families to make bold changes to better serve them.

Recent outreach and input from Alliance members, their staff, youth and families, community stakeholders and government partners informed the need for a cross-sector, collaborative Center for Excellence. The Center will be an innovative partnership designed to provide leadership, enhance and ensure quality, equity and access to services, and drive systems change required to reach the Alliance’s vision that all children will grow up safely, in families who are loving, with everything they need to prosper.

The Alliance seeks professional expertise to help develop and formalize a strategic plan and road map for the Center for Excellence that they can begin implementing.

Key Deliverables:

  • Facilitate leadership staff & board through a documented strategic planning process to launch a Center for Excellence, producing a 3 year plan.
  • Advise the Executive Director to develop a corresponding business/implementation plan.
  • Document the plan with accompanying support and presentation materials.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
  • Experience with strategic planning/launching a new division at the executive level
  • Strong marketing perspective
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion

Education/Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in management at the executive level, strategic planning, marketing/brand launch or a combination/related fields. Awareness of the impact of health inequities. Experience in child services is not required.

Resources: The Executive Director and Operations/Communications Director will be the point people for this project. You will also meet/interact/present to our board of directors and other membership.
If local, meeting space and/or office space will be provided if needed, per COVID guidelines.

Work Environment/Location: 100% virtual placement. Possible limited in-person meetings per COVID guidelines.
