ADC’s purpose is to enable communities to independently meet their needs for essential services, such as clean water and safe sanitation and improve lives in Africa.

Main purpose of job:

Your job will be to ensure staff/volunteers are aware of and engaged in the process of change. You will be able to integrate internal communications across a range of internal channels. You will be both creative and practical and understand how to demonstrate success through the use of analytics.

Position reports to: PR & Communications Manager

Main Duties and Objectives:

  • Develop and deliver internal communication plans and approaches that increase staff/volunteer engagement and internal initiatives that raise awareness of the work ADC is doing  
  • Measure communication effectiveness through analytic tools and pre-defined metrics 
  • Work with departmental leads to guide and assist them to deliver impactful communications and widen the opportunity for better collaboration and two-way engagement with their teams and the wider business 
  • Drive engagement with the ADC brand, supporting efforts to make ADC a great place to work 
  • Acting as strong voice of the internal brand throughout the company, maintaining the brand through all internal touch points, and ensuring all staff are informed on brand and tone of voice
  • Work closely with the People & Culture Team to support their ambitious plans 
  • Partner closely with PR & Comms Manager and Marketing to achieve wider organization goals  


Requirements:

Essential
  1. A natural storyteller and great copywriter in English
  2. Excellent understanding of the global media landscape and how to make the most out of a story
  3. Brilliant communication skills and the ability to translate ideas into PR tactics
  4. Ready to roll up your sleeves with a tenacious approach to getting our story told
  5. Experience with influential industry events and managing speaking opportunities

Desirable

  1. An existing network of media and press contacts is also highly valued

African Development Choices (ADC) is a UK-based Social Enterprise on a mission to reduce poverty in Africa by empowering local communities and their leaders to make more informed choices in the management of public resources so that they can independently meet their own needs for essential services. Improving public resources management is key to establishing a sustainable society. And increasing access to essential services, such as clean water and sanitation, is key to fighting poverty because lack of access to essential services is a root cause of poverty.

We achieve this using our unique approach to reduce poverty as follows:

  1. Set better precedent
  2. Raise expectations
  3. Increase public participation
  4. Improve management of public resources
  5. Increase access to essential services

By delivering access to essential services through our donor-funded community projects, we set better precedents in the management of public resources and the delivery of essential services. Then we raise expectations through education and support and mobilise communities to play an active and informed role in the management of public resources so that they can enact change for themselves. We achieve this by sharing information from our projects that provides a new perspective. It’s not the information that empowers communities to participate; it’s raised expectations from a new perspective.
