ORGANIZATION: Fandom Forward

Events - including livestreams, festivals, and online and in person conferences and conventions - represent a cornerstone of Fandom Forward’s community building activities. Our volunteer Events Team helps make these events possible, and as the Events Team Leader you’d have a hand in every stage of bringing our extremely popular events (including Granger Leadership Academy/Camp GLA) to life.

This role is a 7 hour/week commitment and reports to the Co-Managing Director, Programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Delegating and tracking tasks assigned to Events Team volunteers

  • Ensuring Events Team volunteers have the resources and community support they need to be successful in their roles

  • Acting as first point of contact for questions and concerns from Events Team volunteers

  • Working closely with the Co-Managing Director, Programs to set event goals, calendars, and policies

  • Tracking registration and participant information, answering participant questions, and acting as the front line of service for participant needs

  • Ensuring participants have what they need for an event to be accessible to them

  • Researching and recruiting guest speakers

  • Communicating with guest speakers pre and post event

  • Creating materials needed for participants, guests, and staff

  • Working the events themselves, providing technical, organizational, and participant support

  • Brainstorming new event programs

  • Attendance at regular meetings

  • Help with other Fandom Forward projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with events is always great, but not required - we will train you!

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent written communication

  • Excellent time management and timely communication

  • Comfortable communicating in a professional manner with participants, vendors, and guests in both verbal and written communication

  • Able to adapt and problem-solve quickly

  • Able to delegate effectively

  • Able to track multiple projects simultaneously

  • Able to coach, inspire, and provide helpful feedback to team members

  • Comfort with basic online technology (i.e. Discord, StreamYard, YouTube, Canva, Google Drive) a plus

Fandom Forward has a strict policy in place for determining when we will return to in-person events. Currently, all events are online-only for the safety of our participants and staff. Opportunities to act as on-site volunteers for in-person events may arise in the future, but are not guaranteed.
