Events - including livestreams, festivals, and online and in person conferences and conventions - represent a cornerstone of Fandom Forward’s community building activities. Our volunteer Events Team helps make these events possible, and as the Events Team Leader you’d have a hand in every stage of bringing our extremely popular events (including Granger Leadership Academy/Camp GLA) to life.
This role is a 7 hour/week commitment and reports to the Co-Managing Director, Programs.
Responsibilities:
Delegating and tracking tasks assigned to Events Team volunteers
Ensuring Events Team volunteers have the resources and community support they need to be successful in their roles
Acting as first point of contact for questions and concerns from Events Team volunteers
Working closely with the Co-Managing Director, Programs to set event goals, calendars, and policies
Tracking registration and participant information, answering participant questions, and acting as the front line of service for participant needs
Ensuring participants have what they need for an event to be accessible to them
Researching and recruiting guest speakers
Communicating with guest speakers pre and post event
Creating materials needed for participants, guests, and staff
Working the events themselves, providing technical, organizational, and participant support
Brainstorming new event programs
Attendance at regular meetings
Help with other Fandom Forward projects as assigned
Qualifications:
Previous experience with events is always great, but not required - we will train you!
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent written communication
Excellent time management and timely communication
Comfortable communicating in a professional manner with participants, vendors, and guests in both verbal and written communication
Able to adapt and problem-solve quickly
Able to delegate effectively
Able to track multiple projects simultaneously
Able to coach, inspire, and provide helpful feedback to team members
Comfort with basic online technology (i.e. Discord, StreamYard, YouTube, Canva, Google Drive) a plus
Fandom Forward has a strict policy in place for determining when we will return to in-person events. Currently, all events are online-only for the safety of our participants and staff. Opportunities to act as on-site volunteers for in-person events may arise in the future, but are not guaranteed.
