Volunteer Translator (Mandarin)
WHO WE ARE:
Lantern is grounded in the mission to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Our objective is to make sure that our residents can find and maintain stable housing through emergency shelter and supportive housing. Our on-site social services bring residents and staff together to create opportunities for personal recovery, wellness, and growth.
We have 16 supportive housing buildings located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, and three shelters based in Manhattan and Queens.
We are looking for a Mandarin-speaking Volunteer Translator to assist in translating at Laurel Hall Men's Shelter. Laurel Hall is a men's shelter, with a diverse population. This volunteer will liaise between Laurel Hall staff and any shelter residents, providing English and Mandarin translations.
This volunteer opportunity is both virtual and in-person. The Volunteer Translator should be available 2-3 hours a day, about twice a week.
If you're interested in this volunteer opportunity, please submit an inquiry through VolunteerMatch directly or email us at email@example.com!
About Lantern Community Services
494 8th avenue, 20th floor, New York, NY 10001, US
Lantern Community Services champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who have been impacted by or threatened with homelessness, as well as those who have aged out of foster care.
Lantern is home to more than 1,400 formerly homeless people who live in our 15 apartment buildings across New York City. We pioneered services for people living with HIV, and we are one of the largest providers for young adults who have aged out of foster care. We give people more than just basic support and a place to live, prioritizing interventions with scientifically proven results. We’ve grown our programs a lot recently, working creatively with our existing resources, but now we need volunteer power to bring more programs to more of our clients!
