National Junior Board Member - Chicago/Baltimore

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Friends of MJHS

Although this is a virtual opportunity, we are looking for people who reside in Chicago or surrounding areas OR Baltimore (and surrounding areas).

My husband Luis and I created SoulPhamm, a sports and arts program for kids in New York and New Jersey. The goal of SoulPhamm is to create engaging and unique competitive and performing experiences for young people. In January, 2021 Luis, my partner and very best friend, died suddenly and although the loss hurts, I am compelled to open SoulPhamm and now dedicate it to his memory. But I need help!

Both Luis and I grew up in high crime, low resource, under-served areas and our biggest desire was to provide an outlet for young people to be involved with something positive. Involvement in SoulPhamm is by no means the ONLY answer to what we experience in these neighborhoods, but we do believe it is a small part of a solution.

We are literally just an infant and are piloting our program in New York (we were were from) and New Jersey (where I am now). Next year (2022-2023) we will pilot SoulPhamm in Chicago, Baltimore and Nigeria and are looking to convene a planning team for those areas now through the development of a National Junior Board that will help us figure out the need for and logistics of developing a SoulPhamm extension in Chicago and Baltimore.

The Board would meet two evenings per month via Zoom starting in December (generally a 6pm or 7pm EST start) depending on the schedules of the Board.

Interested candidates should respond with a short note telling us about themselves - specifically outlining their connection to Chicago/Illinois and/or Baltimore/Maryland.

You can learn more about SoulPhamm and Coach Luis at www.soulphamm.org. No phone calls please. Thanks for your interest!
