Home to a wide variety of marine life within its rocky shores, Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is a popular park within the community. Its tidepools are populated with algae, crabs, sponges, star fish, mollusks, and fish; lucky visitors may even have the chance to see sea slugs or octopi! As a part of the Montara State Marine reserve, this park's inclusion within a Marine Protected Area (MPA) ensures that the life here will be protected for generations to come. Come join us Saturday, April 9th and enjoy this park's natural wonders as we remove invasive plant species that threaten it, with a focus on the San Vicente Creek Outlet!

To sign our Volunteer Agreement:

(Please fill this out & send it to efitzsimons@smcgov.org)

If signing up as a family or a group, please let us know how many will be attending in your party. Groups of eight or larger need to be confirmed at least seven days in advance. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have the Volunteer Agreement signed by a parent or guardian. Youth under 15 are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult.

A reminder email with more detailed instructions on where to meet will also be sent out a few days prior to the event!

As we will be working with tools and plant species, it is necessary to wear closed-toed shoes, hiking/outdoor clothing you are comfortable with potentially getting dirty, and a personal water bottle. It's also important to check the weather beforehand and bring a rain/warm coat, a hat, and/or sunscreen if necessary! Please note that if weather conditions are too extreme, this event may be canceled; however, we will reach out to let you know if we foresee any potential of this occurring.

We will be following current state protocols in regards to COVID-19 (subject to change by the time of the event). For now, we ask that you consider wearing face masks/coverings when unable to socially distance, and we will also be keeping the event size at a maximum of 30 people, though actual attendance will vary depending on how many people sign up.

If interested in receiving emails about future events, send an email to kewright@smcgov.org to sign up for our mailing list!
