We are looking for volunteers to help us distribute food at our Chandler Park location!

We have partnered with Gleaner's Mobile Food Pantry to provide our kids and families in the Chandler Park neighborhood with nutritious and healthy food.

We are looking for volunteers to help:

  • direct traffic
  • unload the trucks
  • pack the food boxes
  • put the food in the car trunks of our families
  • clean-up the boxes/pallets/etc.

The first date will be taking place on Tuesday, November 9th at 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM at our Chandler Park site, located at 5312 Newport, Detroit, MI 48213.

The event will take place outside and will require volunteers to be able to lift at least 20 lbs.

This will be a recurring event, taking place once a month at the same time and place for the next 12 months. We would love if there were any volunteers that would like to help out at this event regularly, but if you can only attend 1 or 2 dates, that's ok too!

The Mobile Pantry dates are:

December 7, 2021

January 18, 2022

February 15, 2022

March 15, 2022

Also please note our volunteer policy in regards to COVID-19.

Brilliant Detroit In-Person COVID-19 Volunteer Guidelines

All in-person volunteers must be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. Please either provide us with a proof of vaccination before coming to volunteer or when you arrive at the event.

We ask that even though you are vaccinated, that you wear a mask when volunteering as some community members are not yet vaccinated. We will have masks available if you have forgotten one.

If you are experiencing a fever, any symptoms of COVID-19, or test positive for COVID-19 anytime between signing up to volunteer and the volunteer event itself, please contact us. We will ask you to fill out a short form confirming that you have not experienced any symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 when you arrive to volunteer.

Please wash your hands after touching your face and before and after handling food or program materials. Please avoid any unnecessary contact with any individuals (participants, staff, other volunteers).

Some volunteer events may include food. At this time our food policy is as follows; shared meals will be limited. Food can be prepared and taken home to eat, but consuming meals together is prohibited.

Note that the policies above are subject to change as the COVID-19 situation evolves. We will notify you of any significant changes. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. Our top priority is the safety and health of all Brilliant Detroit constituents.

Please reach out to Chelsea Owens at or Aryeh Perlman at with any questions. Hope to see you there!

Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with children 0-8 have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable.
