ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Assisting in Adult Services Programs including SociAbilities, Vocational Services, CHAMPS and BraVo!
  2. Reading, crafting, gardening, instructing, educational topics, sharing hobbies, assisting with work production/quality control.
  3. Volunteers will not be left alone with individuals served, will not drive agency vehicles, will not assist with personal care.

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment: Compassion, patience, willingness to learn about disability and strategies for working with person served. Enthusiasm and energetic.

Who will be served by this assignment? Adult with developmental disabilities. UDS serves many types of disabilities with varying needs and abilities of person served.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? Learning from members of our community and developing relationships/friendships.

What specific skills will the volunteer need? Some standing but we can modify assignments based on volunteer needs. Minimal to no lifting required.

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
