Gaylord Sports Association Coaches are responsible for planning, organizing and delivering an appropriate training program for an adaptive sports team or program, as well as teaching the rules, techniques and technical aspects of the sport. The team coach will assist individual players with skill development and help each athlete to work towards their full potential. Coaches represent Gaylord Hospital, the Sports Association and are the primary spokesperson for their team. This position may require weekend availability, weekday evening availability and out of state weekend travel for tournaments or events. Coach duties are performed under the direction of the Sports Association Program Manager.

The Wheelchair Rugby Coach will organize and run practices 1x/week from September through February and will attend weekend tournaments or events approximately 4-6 times per season. Practices are located in Hartford, CT on Saturdays from 12 noon - 2:00 pm. This is a volunteer position, however a coaching stipend will be offered to cover your expenses.

Wheelchair rugby is a fast paced, full contact team sport that combines elements of rugby, basketball and handball. Men and women who have a physical disability compete on the same teams and in the same competitions. Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a basketball sized hardwood court, and physical contact between wheelchairs is an integral part of the game. Each team has four players on court and the aim is to score by carrying the ball across the goal line.
