We invite, compassionate, creative folks to join us in our space, Monday through Friday afternoons, to be present and share a talent or conversation with our Black and Brown Youth. Our space has state of the art digital media equipment, Adobe Creative Suites and MacBooks, lot of art/painting equipment, a new kitchen and tons of plants needing care. Come explore these creative resources, eat a meal, or play a game in our trauma-informed loft. Our youth range in age from 15-21 and live in the immediate Kensington Area. We particularly encourage Black, Brown and Queer folks to apply, but all are welcome. Check us out on instagram at @equityphilly

About The Equity Project

Location:

Mission Statement

The Equity Project is committed to advancing racial equity through radical access. We believe every community has the right to transformative trauma-informed services, spaces that inspire and the resources needed to reach our full human potential.

Description

Kensington is a racially and economically segregated neighborhood whose youth are experiencing some of the most profound challenges in the city. In addition to historic divestment, poverty and the legacy of intergenerational racism, our community is at the epicenter of the opioid epidemic exposing young and old, alike, to unprecedented levels of violence, trauma, and suffering. Compounding the impact of this adverse environment is the lack of access to services and resources that support resilience in youth of color. The Equity Project is seeking visionary volunteers to join us in radically reimagining racial equity. We are creating a space that is transformative in its design, equipped with state of the art of the technology, digital music equipment, art and sensory tools where youth of color can freely gather, explore their creativity, develop meaningful connections, heal from trauma and build resilience.
