Volunteer Coordinator will recruit, train, oversee, and supervise volunteers for Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center under the direction of Director of CUARC. It begins by attending a general orientation at our site. If still interested, there will be a planning session/training session with the director at our site. The volunteer Coordinator (VC) will dialog weekly with director and begin job ASAP. Weekly sessions with Director will continue. VC will meet with volunteers on site and will work on site and off site.

Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center has been serving North Lawndale & Little Village communities at our current location, 1957 S. Spaulding Ave, for 19 years. Our staff is all volunteer, including our director. We currently implement the following (7) programs:

  1. women's residence,

  2. on-site art studio, arts program

  3. off-site art workshops/classes & art therapy programs,

  4. animal welfare program, including 3 rescue dogs on-site

  5. art gallery for under-represented artists & as an educational tool for visitors on social justice issues,

  6. nature is nurture, peace parks created from vacant lots honoring black heroes, neighborhood clean-up,

  7. Kedzie pink line stop revitalization program.

Mission Statement

Chicago URBAN ART RETREAT Center (CUARC) provides rooms for women. CUARC also provides safe space for people who are different from each other to enjoy & learn from each other. CUARC celebrates multiculturalism, diversity, and non-violence. We provide opportunities for people to learn about and practice peace. We encourage our volunteers to learn about social justice issues and the isms to spread this information to others.

Description

In addition to a women's residence on the second floor, we offer an art gallery for under-represented artists, and art studio for non-artists. CUARC offers a variety of programs geared to the under represented and to educate the public about under represented populations. At our own site and at sites of other non-profits, CUARC programs include: art workshops & classes for non-artists, support & education for entrepreneurs, art shows by under represented people (people with mental illnesses, people of color, non-artists, survivors of trauma, immigrants, lesbians, gays, & seniors). Social opps. for people who are different from each other to attend, enjoy each other, and learn from each other are offered monthly. Non-violence and tolerance is encouraged at all activities.
