Be the first point of contact for a homeowner in need! This volunteer opportunity can be done from your home, a cafe, school, wherever you have access to the internet, a phone, and a computer. Because this is so heavily focused on Marion County, Indiana, we do prefer Indianapolis residents or those who are very familiar with the area.
NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.
NeighborLink Indianapolis (NLI) is searching for volunteers who could commit to a six month volunteer role with a time commitment of about 1.5 hours per week. We are also seeking volunteers to fill-in for volunteer shifts during phone intake volunteer vacations. Training and resources are provided, then we work with you to build a schedule that works for your availability to fill-in for phone intake as needed. If you are able to be a standby volunteer and contacted a few days in advance to fill-in for a volunteer with a set schedule, that is also needed.
Returning voicemails and filling out a form to see if the caller qualifies for NLI services.
If they qualify, let them know someone will reach out soon to schedule a time to come out and
assess their project. If they do not qualify, let them know why and suggest another resource if
available (we provide resource lists).
During your volunteer day, you are in charge of returning at least 12 phone calls.
Weekly communication from the phone intake team via email with updates and information.
Training provided with resources and a point of contact for any questions
A phone number will be provided so clients will not have your personal contact information.
Reliable internet connection
Responsive to email communication
Smartphone with the ability to download and use phone.com app
Ability to fill out a form electronically via a website
Willing to serve a 6+ month term at minimum
Able to serve 1.5 hours a week or as needed (we do work around vacations and other
engagements as they come up).

About NeighborLink Indianapolis
3421 N. Park Ave., INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46205, US
NeighborLink Indianapolis provides free home repairs and related services to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities who own their own home and live within Marion County, Indiana. Our mission is to help these homeowners age in place safely and independently.
NeighborLink Indianapolis (NLI) is a private nonprofit that provides low-income seniors and those with disabilities living in Marion County with free home repairs and related services to help them age in place safely and independently. Since being established in late 2013, NLI has completed more than 2000 home repairs. NLI serves seniors (62+) and adults with disabilities or limited mobility who own their home and are living at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. Our services include: interior and exterior home repairs, addressing accessibility needs, large one-time clean ups and help with Health Department citations. Homeowners in need of help contact us directly or may be referred to us by other agencies or community groups. Clients are also identified through Health Department citations. Once it is determined a homeowner qualifies for NLI services, we coordinate a network of volunteers who assess the problem, recruit the right help, and get the work done. We use local volunteers and skilled handymen and local professionals who make their services available without charge to do the repairs. We pay for services when necessary for legal, safety or other reasons. And if a project for some reason is outside the scope of our services, we will connect the client to the resources needed to remain safe in their home.
