Be the first point of contact for a homeowner in need! This volunteer opportunity can be done from your home, a cafe, school, wherever you have access to the internet, a phone, and a computer. Because this is so heavily focused on Marion County, Indiana, we do prefer Indianapolis residents or those who are very familiar with the area.

NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.

NeighborLink Indianapolis (NLI) is searching for volunteers who could commit to yearlong volunteer role with a time commitment of no more than an hour a week. We are also seeking volunteers to fill-in for volunteer shifts during phone intake volunteer vacations. About NeighborLink Indianapolis

Location:

3421 N. Park Ave., INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46205, US

Mission Statement

NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help older adults and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.

Description

We focus on home repairs that enable the homeowner to age in place safely, stabilize the home for years to come, and provide an improved appearance for the neighborhood at large. Many of the repairs we provide would be able to be done by the homeowner if they had the means or physical ability. By using volunteers we are able to help the homeowner as well as provide that intimate experience of truly being the hands and able-body for someone else.

Most older adults want to age in the most affordable home-the one they own. Aging in place allows older adults some level of autonomy and dignity over their own health and decisions. It allows many to remain within communities they’ve been a part of for decades. Social determinants of health, particularly including the ability to keep their home safe and accommodating to their physical needs, are among some of the most challenging barriers to aging in place.
