Hope Honor Guard volunteers are the heart of Hope Hospice's VALOR program - a special effort to honor and recognize each veteran as they complete life's closing chapter.
Honor Guard volunteers will visit hospice families in their own homes, in skilled nursing or assisted living facilities, or in our Hope Care Centers. Locations vary throughout Lee, Hendry, and Glades counties, and you are able to choose the locations, dates, and times that work with your preferences and schedule.
The number of ceremonies you attend may vary depending on your availability and willingness to travel. Hope Honor Guard volunteers may also choose to assist with opportunities like health fairs, special events, flag raising or flag retiring ceremonies, and more. Some may want to help with the Veterans History Project through the Library of Congress, to document the stories and recollections of our nation's heroes.
To help, you must complete an application, attend Hope volunteer orientation, have a TB test and background check, and complete additional training specific to the VALOR program. COVID prevention protocols are required for all work involving patient care.
Hope is a five-star partner of the We Honor Veterans program. Please contact us for additional details!

Mission Statement
Since 1979, Hope Health Care mission is simple: Delivering extraordinary care to every person we touch in every community we serve. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for every person experiencing serious illness by providing exceptional, comforting care and choices that give hope and meaning to every moment.
Description
Hope Health Care volunteers are a vital part of our entire organization and play an active role in helping to provide the many special comfort and support services that distinguish Hope Health Care.
We provide specialized care for all people with complex needs related to life-changing illness through our unique services. Our volunteers are special, but not out of the ordinary. They are regular people just like you. They use common sense and understanding. They do not need a medical background. They listen. They care. Volunteers help make a patient's life more fulfilling and satisfying by giving their time, understanding, and support and asking nothing in return. They also provide support to caregivers who are often with the patient 24/7 and may need a much-needed break. If direct care is not for you, you can assist with administrative tasks at our office locations and help out with events and community outreach. Any Hope Health Care volunteer will tell you that they feel they receive more from their experience than they give. Hope's volunteers serve all of southwest Florida, caring for many people in many special ways. Our love and commitment is focused on each individual. We are dedicated to meeting the specific needs of each person.
