Are you looking for a way to serve your community? Consider becoming a board member of the Valley Community Library. Board members are advocates of the library in the community and are responsible for planning the future of the library, monitoring and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the library, setting library policies, and hiring and evaluating the library director. Board members also play a large role in fundraising for the library. Board members may serve two, three-year terms.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Valley Community Library is to serve as the principal agency of the Lackawanna County Library System for providing free library services and materials to help connect people with ideas and resources to enlighten, encourage, enable, enrich and entertain in the boroughs of Archbald, Blakely, Dickson City, Jessup, Olyphant and Throop (also known as the Mid Valley).
Description
The Valley Community Library (formerly Interboro-United Districts Library) opened on December 15, 1985, in the former Wilson Fire Company / Blakely Borough Building in Peckville, Pennsylvania. The Library acquired the entire building in November of 1986. In 2004, the Library moved to its new facility at 739 River Street. The Valley Community Library is one of the newest members of the Lackawanna County Library System, which was established in 1983.
