Red Cross social media volunteers use their personal social media accounts to interact with the public, community partners and other stakeholders on social platforms to help tell the Red Cross story across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and others.

Steady State ("Blue Sky"): Non-Disaster Mode

  • Showcase Red Cross services and programs through social media posts written for regional accounts.
  • Use your personal social media accounts to share information about the organization.
  • Respond to mentions and comments using personal social media accounts.
  • Join existing conversations by validating information, correcting misinformation, recognizing partners and sharing information using personal social media accounts.
  • Alert communications staff to any negative posts.

Disaster ("Gray Sky"): Disaster-Mode

  • Monitor online conversations for disaster-affected people who may need Red Cross help.
  • Share important disaster updates and resources through your personal social media accounts.
  • Offer a compassionate voice to people who have been impacted.
  • Flexible. Time commitment depends on needs of regional communications department.
  • During times of disaster, social media volunteers are asked for on-call availability to take four-hour shifts. Typically, volunteers work remotely
