Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many more equines were left abandoned as people lost their incomes. We also lost sponsors and the funding to pay a stable hand.

We are therefore reaching out to the volunteer community to help us look after the 4 equines we currently home and support us with the learning programmes we run to promote good animal care and connection and well - being with young people at our after school programme.

Tasks include: mucking out; grooming; feeding; painting; weeding; sanding and varnishing; cleaning; riding and lunging; baby sitting; helping lead kids on the ponies; arts and crafts.

Spanish is not essential but helpful; some experience with horses is required and if you can ride, you will have the opportunity to hack out 1-2 times a week on our rescue mares. If you like yoga, you are welcome to join the yoga classes!

All volunteers are requested to submit a police check from their country of origin.

Description

Casa Sierra is a registered not for profit organization in Spain: G04959458 and was founded by British born, Suzy Butler, in 2020.

Suzy is a qualified childrens Yoga teacher and has been riding since she was 5, rescuing horses since she was 12. She has a good understanding of the horse and their needs and a deep passion for them, so when she realised the conditions that many horses are being kept in, in Andaluscia, Spain, she knew she had to do something to encourage a better understanding of good practise and animal care.
Aside from re homing and rehabilitating equines, Casa Sierra runs an after school activity club teaching young people the importance of horses living in herds, appropriate care and connection. Her and her team also teach Yoga and Meditation and arts and crafts to children, encouraging them to breathe and re connect to the earth and world around them. As many schools are now discovering, children’s learning is enhanced when they are relaxed and focused and so have introduced well being classes in to their curriculum. Casa Sierra hopes to help more children and young people, learn this important life skill.
