  • Work in partnership with FAAS staff and Mentors to provide general care and daily enrichment activities for our canine guests, including:
    • Kennel Cleaning
    • Dog Walking
  • Support staff in providing behavior modification and training
  • Help staff monitor appearance, health and behavior
  • Document interactions with dogs
  • Take photos and videos of dogs to promote on FAAS social media accounts

3 Shifts

  • morning / 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM
  • afternoon / 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM
  • afternoon / 03:00 PM to 04:45 PM

FAAS’s mission is to shelter and care for abandoned companion animals, find them new homes, and prevent animal cruelty through education and outreach

Description

Through a unique public-private partnership, FAAS has managed the open-intake City of Alameda Animal Shelter since 2012. With innovative programs, community partnerships, and a passionate base of volunteers and donors, each year FAAS saves on average 97% of the nearly 1,000 lost, abandoned, and homeless animals who enter the city’s shelter. Readers of Alameda Magazine have recognized FAAS as the community’s Best Nonprofit Group for eight consecutive years.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 16
  • Orientation or Training
  • 2 hours a week/3 months minimum commitment.
  • Physically able to kneel and bend over for short periods of time. Must be able to handle dogs that are 50+ pounds. Basic knowledge of dog behavior. Students age 14-16 yr old must volunteer with a parent or guardian.
