Did you know that close to 600 children and youth in Passaic and Union Counties spent time in foster care last year?
These infants, toddlers, elementary age kids, and older youth all need compassionate, caring adults on their side to provide advocacy and support during such a tumultuous time.
You can be that person with only 15 hours per month.
As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, you will help to ensure their needs are met and their best interests are represented. From helping siblings find permanent homes together to uncovering information that helps reunite a loving family, volunteer advocates make an incredible difference in the lives of abused and neglected children.
Join us as an advocate and change a child's life.
The best way to learn about this volunteer opportunity is to attend an upcoming information session. Mission Statement
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Passaic and Union Counties is an independent, non-profit organization that champions the best interests of children involved in the child welfare system. CASA volunteers serve as a child's advocate in court and are committed to ensuring that needed services and assistance are made available to children in need.
Description
Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes.
That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child has an individual advocate to speak for them in court.
It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
