Hedgepig Ensemble is a theater company and activist organization. We reimagine the classics, creating a legacy of storytelling with gender equity at its core. We work to elevate the voices of women, honor the legacies of women playwrights from history, and produce incredible events, panels, and podcasts. We are dedicated to anti-racism in our work. And we taking our work onto a national platform.

Our flagship project is Expand the Canon (www.expandthecanon.com). Please check it out! If you find it as thrilling as we do, you might be a great fit for this leadership opportunity.

Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre, an award-winning non-profit theater company in Brooklyn, seeks a treasurer for the board as we implement a strategic plan that scales our work for greater impact. We especially seek women, people of color, and Brooklyn residents.

The board treasurer reviews the budget monthly and delivers a brief update to the Board, helps with financial statements, and oversees budget creation each season. We are also seeking help as we move from cash to accrual accounting.

Board members meet formally 5 times per year, serve on a committee that meets monthly, attend social events, attend productions, and become an integral part of our artistic family. Approximately 5 hours per month.

You are a great fit if you are passionate about theatre, the classics, gender equity & want to use your skills and network to build resources that will contribute to the growth and impact of our work.

Mission Statement

Founded in 2012, Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre is an award-winning nonprofit theatre service organization located in New York City and working toward national impact. We reimagine the classics, creating a legacy of storytelling with gender equity at the core. Our flagship project is Expand the Canon (www.expandthecanon.com) - an effort that broadens the 'classics' by including voices of a diverse group of women. Heralded by American Theater Magazine, Playbill.com, The New York Times, and Token Theatre friend, this program is the backbone of all our work. We believe that stories handed down from generation to generation shape culture - and we want to see a more inclusive world.

Description

Hedgepig is the leader in finding, curating, and advocating for classic plays for women through our flagship program, Expand the Canon. Each year, we create a resource of curated plays, a podcast, and partnership readings and productions.

We are working toward publishing monologue books, crafting workshops for universities, and delivering professional development for high school teachers. We are working to scale our organization to become the center for gender equity in the classics.
