Guest Lecturers

ORGANIZATION: Friends of MJHS

My husband Luis and I created SoulPhamm, a sports and arts program for kids in New York and New Jersey. The goal of SoulPhamm is to create engaging and unique competitive and performing experiences for young people. In January, 2021 Luis, my partner and very best friend, died suddenly and although the loss hurts, I am compelled to open SoulPhamm and now dedicate it to his memory. But I need help!

We are looking for individuals to serve as Guest Lecturers.

Our program serves youth ages 10 to 17 who are part of our basketball, cheerleading, step team, majorette dance, sorority and drumline. In addition to their program day (Saturdays), we want to offer them an opportunity to learn things they might not learn in school - so we are recruiting Guest Lecturers who will teach a one-time, one-hour class via Zoom on a variety of subjects.

An example of subjects we would like to see include: Money/Budgeting; Intro to Investing; Food/Cooking Skills; Foreign Language; Interviewing Skills; Public Speaking; Social Etiquette; Home Economics; Time Management; Conflict Resolution/Coping Skills; Communication Skills; You could also choose to do something that is more frequent, like test prep (SAT); or tutoring.

How it Works: Identify a subject and create an outline for your talk; select a date (choose any date from December to late May); select a day/time (no Saturdays, Sundays). To get the most turnout, a class that starts at 6, 7 or 8pm EST would be ideal; identify your audience (ages 10-12; high school students; HS seniors; adults/parents, etc.). This will be fleshed out when you interview with the Director and she can answer any other questions you have.

You can learn more about SoulPhamm and Coach Luis at www.soulphamm.org. No phone calls please. Thanks for your interest!
