We are looking for passionate Alzheimer's Ambassadors to serve as volunteers on The Longest Day Ambassador Network across South Carolina. Help the Alzheimer’s Association realize our vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease and all other dementia, by helping with The Longest Day event in your community.

  • The Longest Day(r) is the day with the most light - the summer solstice. The Longest Day participants fight the darkness of Alzheimer's and all other dementia through a fundraising activity of their choice on a day that works for them. With sports tournaments, card games, parties, baking and more, participants turn their passion into purpose and raise funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association(r). Participants can literally do anything, anytime, anywhere - whatever works best for them. We provide tools, resources and local support to help them turn that into a fundraiser to ENDALZ!.
  • To participate in The Longest Day sign up your activity at www.alz.org/tld For more information on The Longest Day visit www.alz.org/tld or view the event video at https://youtu.be/fMUOPMnj9sk

Volunteers are needed in four regions across South Carolina (Upstate, Midlands, Peedee, Low Country) for three Longest Day Ambassador Network roles:

  • Leadership Roles: Chair, Co-Chair, , Fitness Outreach Chair, Pickleball Outreach Chair, Region Chair/Engagement Co-Chair , Region Chair/Outreach Co-chair
  • Engagement Ambassador: Help engage participants with quarterly calls to past and current participants, welcome calls, coaching tips, celebrations, thank you notes, Facebook group interaction
  • Community Outreach Ambassador: Help spread the word about the Longest Day in the region. Hang posters, distribute rack cards, man tables at community events, list The Longest Day on local event calendars and social media groups. Reach out to clubs, churches, schools, companies, and activity groups like golf, tennis, pickleball and fitness.

Ideal volunteers would have some of these traits: Enjoy connecting with people, be passionate about ending Alzheimer's, be enthusiastic and creative, be comfortable talking on the phone, be willing to drop by local groups and businesses, be committed to joining monthly zoom meetings and be willing to participate in The Longest Day and do their own fundraising event. South Carolina Residents only.

New volunteers are on-boarded every October and then on an ongoing basis individually each month. Local staff help you get on-boarded and trained and provide ongoing monthly support such as scripts and resources. The role requires a commitment of 1-2 hours a week from November to June with April, May and June being the busiest. Other than mandatory monthly meetings, work is flexible and we try to tailor your volunteer experience to your interests and needs.

This is a critical time in our fight and any help you can lend to the cause is so very important. The Longest Day Ambassador Network is a great way to get involved in your community and turn your passion into purpose in the fight to ENDALZ. Together we can shine our light on the darkness of Alzheimer's!
