In the New Roots program, refugees learn growing techniques for vegetables that will thrive in the Midwest and are popular with market and Community Supported Agriculture Program customers. They study area weather patterns, federal rules and regulations applicable to commercial growing, where to purchase supplies and how to negotiate prices.
Current volunteer opportunities for the New Roots program are listed below:
- Farm Share Delivery Volunteer - Deliver produce to one of Farm Share locations. Weekly Wednesday or Thursday commitment for the rest of the August-October season
- Market Volunteer - Transport 1st year farmers and their produce to farmer’s markets; assist in setting up market stands and selling produce once a month. Shifts available Sat/Sun morning or Wed evening.
