ORGANIZATION: Koreatown Youth & Community Center

Summary: Research has shown that every child is just one caring adult away from being a success story. KYCC’s youth programs serve 500 children a year, so your time and energy can mean that one more child will have a better chance in life with just a few hours a week. We’ve found that our volunteers get just as much, if not more out of building this relationship with kids who would thrive with just a little more attention.

Mission: The Koreatown Youth and Community Center was established in 1975 to support a growing population of at-risk youth in Los Angeles. Today, KYCC is the leading multiservice organization in Koreatown, supporting children and their families in the areas of education, health, housing, and finances. Most of the clients served are first generation immigrants from Asia and Latin America. Committed to serving the diverse population of Koreatown, we offer all programs in Spanish, Korean and English.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:

  • This video shows a little bit of what a day looks like in our youth services programs.
  • This is an in-person volunteer opportunity. PPE are provided by request, and COVID-19 protocols are in place to protect our youth, volunteers and staff.
  • Volunteer duties are primarily tutoring along with student/classroom supervision, assist classroom instructors with enrichment activities, and provide light administrative assistance (i.e. roster/data management, snack preparation and service) Monday - Friday with a variety of shifts between 2:30 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Orientation and training is provided.
  • Please note, this volunteer opportunity is for adults 18+. If you are a youth, please let us know as we have a different volunteer program for high school students.
  • A limited number of internships are also available in this program.

Additional details: If you have just a few hours a week available to work with K - 8th grade youth, you have the opportunity to make an unforgetting impact on the life of a child who needs your support.
