The volunteer plays a critical role in providing patient care and support services according to his/her experience and training while in compliance with organization policies. With help from our volunteers, we can ensure that our patients and their families have a helping hand when they need it most.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate Knowledge of the philosophy, mission, and purpose of the Hospice.
  • Able to communicate with the terminally ill and their families in a helpful way.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Able to maintain the confidentiality of the information and protect the rights of the Hospice patient.
  • Able to listen without imposing one’s own spiritual, religious, social, and/or political values and beliefs.
  • Able to work independently and as a team member with the hospice team and maintain open communication with the other team members.
  • Able to attend scheduled in-services and training.
  • If making home visits, must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
  • Record and submit accurate, timely, and objective documentation on the volunteer summary notes.
  • Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Assignment of other duties (as needed) directed by the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings, as appropriate.

AREAS OF VOLUNTEERING:

  • Patient Support, Clerical/Administrative, Outreach, Bereavement, 11th Hour, etc.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with his/her own spirituality, and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.
  • Successful completion of the hospice’s volunteer training and orientation program.
  • Previous volunteer experience may be helpful.
  • Ability to work within the interdisciplinary group.
  • If making home visits, must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
