ONE MILLION DEGREES

One Million Degrees and the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative launched the Finish What You Started Program for Adams County Residents.

Adams County residents ages 25+ now have an opportunity to re-enroll in college and complete their degree with the support of Finish What You Started. Whether looking to increase their earnings, make a career shift, or completing a life goal, continuing education is a big decision for students.

The new partnership between One Million Degrees (OMD) and the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) intends to encourage returning adult students with some college no degree to come back to college and ramp up their career.

And we can use your support!

Finish What You Started Scholars will receive holistic wrap around support services including financial, academic, personal, and professional benefits to navigate their paths to graduation. OMD believes in the power of community and a robust network of supports for students on their pathway to career success...and this is where we need YOU!

Coaches serve as motivators, sounding boards, and thought partners for scholars. They work to set goals, build their network, navigate college, and plan their next career steps. If you have ever had the benefit of mentorship, now is your chance to give back!

Ready to apply and be a coach for our inaugural program in Colorado? Volunteer a few hours a month to empower Adams County students.

Coach Requirements:

  • Apply to be an OMD Coach
  • Complete coach onboarding
  • Meet with your scholar match virtually or in person one hour each month during the academic year

**While there is no residency requirement, please be aware that there may be required in-person events in or near Adams County

Mission Statement

One Million Degrees accelerates community college students’ progress on career pathways to economic mobility.

Description

One Million Degrees is the only organization in Illinois and one of few in the country dedicated to providing comprehensive supports to low-income, highly motivated community college students to help them succeed in school, in work, and in life. OMD Scholars graduate at twice the state average with the skills and experiences necessary to launch economically mobile careers.

Currently in its 12th year of programming, OMD continues to expand the number of scholars it supports to be a catalyst for change in Chicago. OMD partners with 10 Chicago-area community colleges, including the seven City Colleges of Chicago, Harper College, Prairie State College, and South Suburban College.
