The Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind has an immediate but short-term need for 2 to 4 individuals to assist with driving staff who are legally blind to their local appointments. This role would involve getting yourself to the Stratford Armory where a car will be gassed up and waiting for you to drive. You would then proceed to a satellite office location to pick up the staff teacher and drive to the daily appointments. The shifts listed are approximate samples - You can choose a 1/2 day or an all day, one day- or any day, M-F between now and February to help. Don't miss this chance to keep your resume current with an eye catching volunteer post.

Your role will be to escort the teacher to the threshold of the private residence and then In almost all cases you will be able to relax with a book and wait for their appointment to conclude. We practice all ReOpen CT guidelines which will be provided and the cars are fully loaded with wipes, sanitizers and all PPE necessary.

This opportunity is fully insured with our liability coverage - you need to provide proof of license in CT and we will collect a driving and criminal history on you - two references too. We will provide a short training on sighted guide - common sense techniques for walking/guiding a person who is blind.

This is a great opportunity to learn a little and help a LOT! If you are interested but not certain call me at 860-602-4129 and we can walk through this and other options!
