MARIN YMCA - OLDER ADULT ADVISORY BOARD

POSITION SUMMARY

The Marin YMCA is currently seeking applicants to join our ongoing Older Adult Advisory Board. The Marin YMCA is working to create an inclusive community space that is welcoming to the diverse communities and individuals that make up those 60 and older in Marin. The Older Adult Advisory Board will work with the Marin YMCA Board and Staff to reduce barriers to accessing healthy living programs and services for all.

Where We've Been:

In January of 2022, the Marin YMCA formed the Older Adult Advisory Board.

From March through June of 2022, we will be conducting conversations with the community to learn about barriers to accessing physical activity.

Where We're Going:

Once these conversations are completed, the Advisory Board will work with leaders on the YMCA staff to translate that information into a roadmap for future changes and/or areas of focus.

The Marin YMCA is seeking to recruit community members from a wide range of backgrounds, neighborhoods, and cultures to help create an inclusive plan for the future.

Each member is charged to carry on their work in a manner consistent with the general purposes and objectives of the YMCA and its policies and procedures. Advisory board members should exemplify the YMCA's core values:

Caring

Honesty

Respect

Responsibility

Board members should show respect for the viewpoints of others and be willing to accept majority decisions, even when in conflict with one's own position. First and foremost, advisory board members should have an interest in the objectives of the board and a desire to improve the quality of programs and services available to older adults in Marin County.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMMITMENT

The Older Adult Advisory Board is a working volunteer board with a time commitment between 5 and 10 hours per month. There will be a monthly meeting lasting 1.5-2 hours.

MISSION AND VISION OF THE ADVISORY BOARD

Mission: To enhance the health and quality of life of Marin County older adults by enabling and increasing participation at the Marin YMCA with special focus on the needs of low-income and otherwise vulnerable older adults.

Vision: To engage with the older adult community, throughout this process, to ensure we are focused on the right solutions that will support this underserved population in connecting with the larger YMCA community in a meaningful way. To promote a supportive and inclusive environment and accessible activities, both physical and social, at the Y.
