Support sober active communities in The Bay Area!

The Phoenix Bay Area builds sober active communities that fuel resilience and harness the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live. We're looking for volunteer certified yoga instructors to lead community-based fitness events in San Francisco and The East Bay. This is a great opportunity for newly certified yoga instructors to gain some experience teaching classes!

If you have a background in yoga, have experience in recovery or a strong passion and commitment to social justice and mental health, and want to help your community, we want to hear from you! If you do not have a yoga background but are simply passionate about participating in our sober-active community, we want to hear from you too!

As a Volunteer Yoga Instructor, you will:

  • Have at least a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate
  • Have a CPR Certification (we may be able to provide CPR training if necessary)
  • Lead 1 class every week, for 1 or 2 hours max
  • Commit to long term volunteering, ideally 2 months
  • Complete online trainings (about an hour to complete)
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Help spread the word and bring a friend or 2 to help drive attendance!
  • Do a background check. This is required for all volunteers. Recognizing that we come from different experiences, a record doesn’t automatically disqualify you from volunteering!

About The Phoenix

Location:

2239 CHAMPA ST, DENVER, CO 80205, US

Mission Statement

The Phoenix offers a free sober active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life. Using a peer support model, we help members heal and rebuild their lives while also striving to eliminate stigma around recovery.

Description

The ultimate impact Phoenix seeks is to help individuals not only achieve sobriety, but to thrive in recovery. The Phoenix Model is unique because of its non-clinical approach that uses the power of human connection and positive coping mechanisms through physical activity to help people heal from the underlying causes of addiction.

Phoenix peer instructors use an experiential approach that leverages innate goal-setting association with engagement in physical activities while facilitating a positive and supportive experience, allowing team members to shed the defense mechanisms that have historically kept them isolated. By bringing people together, Phoenix creates a community where people can heal, obtain essential life skills, and practice effective social interaction. Research suggests facilitating physical activity, social connection and community are potent strategies for promoting health and healing from disease.
