Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide refuge for senior animals and animals needing hospice care. We aim to provide education, assistance and support to the public to help people better understand and care for their companion animals. We do more than just rescue, we DRIVE change.

Description

The vision for SFAR was born in February 2019. The founder adopted a thirteen year old, blind and deaf, shepherd named Lizzy from an animal shelter. After she adopted Lizzy she decided to make SFAR a rescue for senior dogs and dogs needing hospice care. Senior animals in shelters are most at risk for euthanasia and are often times overlooked. At SFAR we believe all senior animals deserve to live out the rest of their lives in comfort and peace. After two years of hard work and dedication, the board of directors came together and the rescue started to take off. SFAR is 100% foster based, we do not have a facility at this time. SFAR not only rescues senior animals but also strives to educate the public about animal welfare and animal health. We believe rescue and education go hand in hand. We want to keep as many dogs out of the shelters as possible by educating people about their companion animals and the importance of neutering and spaying. SFAR is also implementing a community assistance program to help underserved communities with pet food, vaccines and low cost medical care.
