Project Hawai’i, Inc. is an award-winning volunteer staffed nonprofit run completely by public donations to help homeless children succeed. We are seeking those who love to do crafts to assist with putting together a craft project project bag for our homeless children for Christmas.
Due to covid our Christmas party has once again has turned into a drive thru... while this event still serves the purpose of assuring that homeless children are provided with their holiday meals, stockings, Santa wish gifts and more, they are still missing out on the fun of the traditional events at the party. For the past 18 years we have hosted a party for 350 homeless children where the children get to come to the party and make crafts to take with them, they play games and win prizes, sit on Santa's lap and receive their gifts.

Our homeless children, like all children, will be out of school for 3 weeks over the winter break. Unlike other children they won't be having family gatherings, they won't celebrate traditions of making crafts, or decorating cookies with family and friends. We want to provide each child with a craft they can take with them back to their tent or car and put together later. Keeping their minds active and their hearts happy with the joy of the holidays.

CRAFT GUIDELINES:

  1. Please send projects in groups of 12, and EMAIL how many you are making so we can keep track.
  2. Craft projects needs to be simple and come with step by step instructions included.
  3. Crafts must have all the items needed to complete the project. They won't have access to simple basic items to complete. For example if you want to send something that needs glue, please provide the glue stick, or if it needs something to be cut, please pre cut the items. If you need them to have a few crayons, please include.
  4. Each craft needs to be placed in a ZIP LOCK STYLE baggie individually along with the instruction sheet. One package per child.
  5. All crafts need to be marked if gender specific. Our volunteer team is making packets for girls and boys, or either is fine.
  6. Please send all projects by Dec. 5th to assure they arrive. Project Hawai'i, Inc. 16-396 Kea'au Lp, Kea'au, HI 96749 c/o Christmas Crafts
A fun way to get ideas is googling Christmas Crafts for pre-schoolers. Or even on Pinterest. Even though the crafts might be simple, our children lack many skills to be creative on their own. We do well with items make for children 4 - 7 years olds with little steps.

If this is a project you are doing with your child, please take photos of your child doing the work/assembly and share on social media /tag Project Hawai’i, Inc. (on facebook or IG) to help spread the awareness of how children can make a difference in the lives of homeless children. Of course this is optional, but it really makes a difference to create awareness of the homeless crisis we face among our children and that everyone can make a difference in so many ways.

Please let me know if you have future questions or concerns. Happy Crafting.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to enhance the lives of homeless children while teaching them the life and social skills they need to succeed!

Description

Project Hawai’i, Inc. is an award-winning volunteer staffed nonprofit that provides services to over 1,600 individual homeless children annually across the islands of O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island of Hawai'i. The nonprofit strives to change the lives of children by providing a sense of stability through interactive programs, including educational summer camps, holiday events, school support, and educational training. Additionally, the nonprofit provides monthly outreach support to assure that children are supplied with healthy meals, personal hygiene care, and emergency services.

Since the foundations inception in 2003, we are proud to announce we have successfully helped over 2,000 homeless children escape and BREAK their cycle of poverty as they continue to build their families with a strong foundation.

In Hawaii, there are over 23,000 children living in substandard and homeless situations.

Our mission is to help end the cycle of poverty for Hawaiian Children (keiki)
