Project Hawai’i, Inc. is an award-winning nonprofit organization that is solely run by volunteers. Our mission is to help homeless children succeed. Our programs include holiday events, emergency outreach, educational programs, summer camp and a dormitory for teen girls to attend college.

Project Hawai’i, Inc. is seeking a social media volunteer/manager or coordinator to help with the overall social media presence to spread awareness and invite the community to be interactive with our programs.

Objective of the Social Media Role:
The objective of the social media coordinator role is to contribute to and assist in the development and implementation of a social media strategy to increase overall reach and program awareness. They will use social media outlets to promote active Project Hawai’i, Inc. campaigns, engage the public and increase online presence. The social media coordinator will directly contribute to increasing public awareness by sharing and promoting the work of Project Hawai’i, Inc. through Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and possibly YouTube resulting in event registrations, support, donations and sponsorship for the funding of essential care for the children enrolled in our programs.

Duties, Responsibilities & Skills:

  • The social media coordinator will assist in the Identification of key online channels for Project Hawai’i, Inc. to establish a strong online presence
  • Assist in the development of a social media strategy to support the organization’s campaigns and fundraising activities, and establish targets for increasing online reach
  • Post regular updates to Project Hawai’i, Inc. social media outlets and share across various groups, including news articles, blog posts, press releases, fundraising appeals, and any other promotional items
  • Monitor activity and user interactions for all social media outlets
  • Adapt general Project Hawai’i, Inc. campaign messaging for the different outlet-specific audiences
  • If you are on one of the islands we are hosting events, you can can also attend events to take photos/video and use for messaging

Qualifications and/or experience using key social media outlets Facebook, Instagram, (and others)
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to use online tools to engage the public, donors, and corporate partners
  • Outgoing, enthusiastic and creative
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Has strong and broad social media networks and connections

Time Requirements/Internship Requirements
  • This is a volunteer position and hours are flexible.
  • This position requires a minimum 3 month commitment (typically for the time frame of event you are working on, such as Christmas or summer camp, etc.) for an average of approximately 5 hours/week
  • If you are looking for more hours for your required internship program, we also have a research and marketing position that can be implemented. This would include researching more communication, key words, etc to benefit our over all presence online.
  • If you are on island for which we are conducting events, you can also attend and take photos/video for future posts
  • Assist Project Hawai’i, Inc. to achieve our objectives - Helping Homeless Keiki (children) Succeed
  • An opportunity to assist in the development and promotion of events for a growing charitable child welfare organization
  • This position provides valuable experience for individuals and/or students in Communications and NonProfit Management
  • An opportunity to develop practical and measurable social media and public relation skills and experience An opportunity to meet and interact with new people and participate in annual events

Project Hawai’i, Inc. is an award-winning volunteer staffed nonprofit that provides services to over 1,600 individual homeless children annually across the islands of O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island of Hawai'i. The nonprofit strives to change the lives of children by providing a sense of stability through interactive programs, including educational summer camps, holiday events, school support, and educational training. Additionally, the nonprofit provides monthly outreach support to assure that children are supplied with healthy meals, personal hygiene care, and emergency services.

Since the foundations inception in 2003, we are proud to announce we have successfully helped over 2,000 homeless children escape and BREAK their cycle of poverty as they continue to build their families with a strong foundation.

In Hawaii, there are over 23,000 children living in substandard and homeless situations.
