Senior Zen Hour Volunteer
Use your creativity and artistic skills to facilitate Senior Zen Hour at Dayton’s Bluff Library.
Senior Zen Hour is a program for seniors that allows them to spend time quietly socializing, painting, doing crafts, or completing crossword puzzles. It is a way for older people in the community to connect to each other and to the resources in their neighborhood library.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person who is comfortable developing beginner art lessons and craft projects and facilitating more easy-going programs like adult coloring, crossword puzzles, and games. Activities will differ from week to week, but will promote socializing and cater to older adults.
This volunteer will collaborate with library staff to plan and promote this program. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Developing ideas for art projects and activities
- Communicating supply needs to staff
- Setting up for program
- Facilitating and instructing during program
- Cleaning up after program
The best candidate for this position is a creative person with enthusiasm for art and a love for working with people. Teamwork and good communication skills are necessary qualities for this volunteer position. You must be comfortable giving instruction, interacting with older adults, and maintaining a safe and fun environment.
We are looking for someone who can work with diverse populations and can be professional, friendly, and welcoming.
We ask that you maintain a consistent, dependable, and helpful presence in the library by communicating absences, asking questions when they arise, and collaborating with library staff.
