FunLab Volunteer
Working with Youth
Help out during FunLab programming at Dayton’s Bluff Library.
Do you have enthusiasm for working with children? The creativity and patience to help kids learn and have fun while working on various crafts and activities that engage and teach them science, technology, engineering, art, and math concepts? If so, this is a great volunteer position for you!
FunLab is an umbrella term used to describe STEAM programming for ages 7-11. At our Rice Street Library Library, FunLab events occur on a consistent basis, Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-5:00 pm . Children and families can drop in to participate in a variety of developmentally appropriate STEAM activities.
You will work closely with the Children’s Specialist and other library staff to help ensure that Fun Lab events provide the necessary support for participants. This includes:
- Setting up for the event
- Assisting during the program
- Maintaining a comfortable, safe, and fun atmosphere
- Helping youth and families navigate the space
- Cleaning up after event
- Other tasks as needed
The best candidate for this position is a creative person with enthusiasm for children’s work. Knowledge and understanding of children’s development and interests is a plus. A willingness to learn, teamwork skills, and good communication are necessary qualities for this volunteer position. You must be comfortable giving direction, helping kids manage behavior, and maintaining a safe and fun environment.
We are looking for someone who can work with diverse populations and can be professional, friendly, and welcoming.
Your volunteer hours will work around your schedule, the library’s open hours, and the Children’s Specialist’s work schedule. We ask that you maintain a consistent, dependable, and helpful presence in the library by communicating absences, asking questions when they arise, and being willing to learn.
We look forward to you joining our team as we connect, learn, discover and grow with our community.
