Adopt-a-Shelf

Shelf-read, sort and shelf movies, and help keep our library looking nice and neat.

If you prefer working in a self-paced environment, enjoy clerical tasks, and would like a volunteer position that can work around your schedule, Adopt-a-Shelf is right for you.

The primary duty is shelf-reading sections of the library to ensure that materials are properly organized and shelved according to library standards. Other tasks may include:

  • Sorting and shelving movies
  • Pulling rough-looking items
  • Cleaning, neatening, and straightening materials and shelves
  • Answering directional questions
  • Other clerical tasks

Prior experience is not required. We will provide training of library organization methods and Library of Congress classification.

The best candidate for this position will have enthusiasm for volunteer work, be willing to learn library organization methods, and have knowledge of the English alphabet.

We are looking for someone who can work well with diverse populations and who is professional, friendly, and welcoming.

Your volunteer hours will work around your schedule and the library’s open hours. We ask that you maintain a consistent, dependable, and helpful presence in the library by communicating absences, asking questions when they arise, and being willing to learn.

We look forward to you joining our team as we connect, learn, discover and grow with our community.
