Why I Volunteer!

Crafty Christmas - Craft Outreach Coordinator!

Milwaukee Pets Alive isn’t just another rescue. We are here to shape rescue. Join us as our Crafty Christmas - Craft Outreach Coordinator!

As our most favorite fundraiser and beloved event in the community as part of the kick-off to the holiday season, it’s no surprise going into our 6 th year of A Crafty Christmas - Craft & Gift Sale - has grown in both popularity and size - and we need a volunteer dedicated to helping us secure more crafters to donate to help us keep pace with the success!

Last year we expanded to 2 event dates and locations and we sold out of almost all the crafts that were donated by our supporters - which raised lots of funds for our special needs and considerations animals - but it also means we have very little base inventory for our 2021 season - so we need to reach lots of good-hearted people who love to craft, create, make...and donate!

The Crafty Christmas - Craft Outreach Coordinator will use online resources to research different groups, organizations, or businesses that might have groups of individuals who are interested in crafting for our fundraiser. The Crafty Christmas - Craft Outreach Coordinator will then compile a list of places to contact and use online resources to find their contact information to do so. Email messages can be sent to ask if a group is interested in crafting for our events (we will provide a list of the type of crafts we are looking for to provide in the email) unless no email address can be found then a phone call should be initiated. Phone conversations may also be necessary if a group contacted via email would like to talk to someone for more information.

Who will you reach out to? Craft groups or businesses with crafting classes are a good place to start. But while donating crafts to our fundraiser will help the animals we serve, we also like our opportunities to be able to help others. Reaching out to nursing/rehab facilities (both with and without formal art/recreational therapy departments), assisted living homes, and church groups can give people who may be looking to get involved, contribute, and help others a meaningful way to do so and something fun to look forward to doing to fill their days.

The Crafty Christmas - Craft Outreach Coordinator will work with groups/facilities that want to contribute to our fundraiser to coordinate a plan for pick up/drop off of completed handmade crafted items.

The volunteer’s tasks are done around their own schedule - when it’s convenient for you - morning, day, or night - though some tasks will involve the occasional coordination of your schedule with the schedule of others (such as meetings or phone calls).

The right individual will strongly believe in our mission, vision, and core values and have a sincere interest in elevating our organization, extending our reach, and growing with us (so commitment and dedication are important). Must be motivated, and a self-starter with initiative, drive, ambition, and the ability to work independently. Must also be willing and able to accept direction to produce messaging, vision, results, and practices consistent with that of the overall organization as a whole and then take that direction to lead in the execution of their tasks. Individual must be able to follow through on their commitments. MPA is looking for a volunteer to fill this role who recognizes the importance of working on behalf of the special animals we serve and will work hard for them as they are counting on us to save their lives!

When every person does a little to make a difference, together, we make change. Reaching as many people as possible to let them know we’re here and the important work we are doing for an important population of animals that have no one else but us is directly proportionate to what we can achieve, and the number of animals we can save. The more volunteer help we have, the more animals we can help. It’s that simple. Will YOU help? If you want to help and can fulfill the needs we are looking for in a volunteer for this role, please email volunteer@milwaukeepetsalive.org or reply to this posting.

Please help us do more for the animals of this community! Thank you.

Milwaukee Pets Alive (MPA) is an all-volunteer, No Kill, 501c3 special needs and considerations rescue that focuses on saving those local animals that have been passed over by, would not be accepted into, or would be killed by other rescues and shelters because of their needs and considerations and would have no other option for life except for through our organization. These animals may be shy, scared, under-socialized, injured, aged, differently-abled, have medical needs, or need extra resources - all deserve the chance to be loved and cherished. And all deserve time, understanding, patience, and good, comprehensive veterinary care to help them get happy, healthy, and reach their highest potential. Their lives are important.

Our mission, through our work aforementioned and through comprehensive programs and resources to educate and help community members help the animals in their own lives (thereby preventing more animals from entering the shelter system), is to end the killing of homeless companion animals in southeast WI. The population we rescue comprises those that continue to die in the greatest numbers in our community.

Our vision is for southeast WI to be one of the safest communities in the United States for companion animals.

We couldn’t help these special animals of our community that we do if not for the wonderful people who volunteer their time and talents!

We need to get lots of crafters and makers involved to make A Crafty Christmas - Craft & Gift Sale 2021 continue to grow and be more successful than the last. Are you ready to be a part of something bigger than yourself and help animals that have no one else? Reach out to us today!
