ORGANIZATION: Orland Park Public Library

  • 8 people are interested

The Orland Park Public Library is seeking dedicated and energetic volunteers to help us run a book club for older teens and adults with developmental disabilities. The club will be an official chapter of the Next Chapter Book Club, an international organization that believes books and book clubs are for everyone! The Library's Community Engagement Manager is experienced in running and maintaining NCBCs and knows they run better when they are run by a mix of staff and community members. Volunteers should be prepared for a 6 month time commitment at least - and longer commitments are even better for the health of the club.

Time commitment: The club will meet every other week in the evenings from Spring to early Summer. We will break in the Summer and start again in the Fall. Volunteers need to show up 30 minutes before club begins for set up. The Library has a budget to supply all books, craft materials and snacks.

A regular club meeting is reading a book out loud together, discussing it and just hanging out. Training will be purchased by the library for volunteers and supplemental training and coaching will be provided by the library's Community Engagement Manager. Training likely to begin in January 2022.

Potential volunteers will be interviewed and need to submit to a criminal background check. Retired teachers or students in LTA, Library Science or education would be ideal for this volunteer position.

Thank you & we'd love to have your help! ~Team OPPL
