Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, debilitating, and eventually fatal neurological illness affecting an estimated 4-5 million Americans. Depending on the progression of the disease, companionship can be provided for the patient through reading, going on walks outside, flipping through photos, doing puzzles, knitting, and any other stimulating activity! In cases of patients with advanced Alzheimer’s, providing companionship by simply holding their hand can give reassurance and comfort so that they feel safe and secure!
