The purchasing department acts as the supply chain management/procurement arm for Wings of Hope. Most, if not all purchases made include involvement from purchasing...sometimes only to issue a purchase order number to the purchaser. This ensures that all materials and services delivered to Wings of Hope are accounted for and the proper billings delivered to accounting for processing and application to cost centers. Services contracted for include aircraft parts and supplies; building and maintenance services; IT supplies and equipment; printing, brochures, marketing mailings and donation campaign materials; and any other goods and services needed by the organization. Negotiations of pricing, service quality, and delivery policies are the prime consideration when selecting any vendor.

While we solicit competitive bids for all Wings of Hope purchases, the sourcing of parts for the aircraft we rehabilitate is sometimes more problematic. Many airplanes donated to Wings are fairly old and finding a part - anywhere - can involve many hours of phone calls and web searching. Our aircraft part sources range from general-line and specialty suppliers of factory new parts to salvage yards which specialize in recycling usable parts from aircraft no longer in service.

Whether it is aircraft parts, promotional materials, office supplies, etc....whatever is needed...the mission of Wings of Hope Purchasing is to deliver WOH the biggest bang for its purchasing dollar. We accomplish this via dialog with internal using departments to select the right item for each need, delivering it in a timely fashion and at the best value.

Candidates need strong business savvy, good interpersonal and telephone communication skills, good writing skills, the ability to form strong interpersonal relationships while remaining a strong TEAM player, attention to detail while remaining flexible and being available as needed, work independently while remaining procedure-minded, and maintain a conversational voice in all interactions

Wings of Hope was founded in 1962 and is the largest Humanitarian aviation charity in the world. Our intent is to save lives, improve the quality of lives, and bring hope to people where the utilization of aviation is vital to the accomplishment of these humanitarian endeavors. We have placed over 150 aircraft serving mankind in more than 40 countries.

We focus on what is needed in a region to help the less fortunate of our fellow man achieve an improved level of health care, education. and opportunity. Each region served has the work customized for their particular situation.

From our St. Louis area headquarters, we operate a free Medical Air Transport program that serves the central United States. This service carries children with various maladies and birth defects, even those that are not ambulatory, to and from health care. It also carries adults who have debilitating health issues. If needed and possible, we may arrange for the medical care necessary at participating health care providers.

St. Louis HQ volunteer hours generally 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
