ORGANIZATION: Berkeley Schools Volunteers

Berkeley Schools Volunteers

Whatever skills, interests, or time you have to give, there is a place for you in Berkeley Schools Volunteers (BSV), a program of the Berkeley Public Schools Fund.

BSV matches committed community members with teachers and staff in one of our 20 Berkeley Unified public schools - preschool through 12th grade, and the adult school. BSV Classroom Volunteers (CVs) are custom matched by BSV to BUSD Host Teachers who’ve requested extra adult support in their classroom. Matches are based on grade-level and subject area interests of the volunteer, and educator needs. Under the guidance of the BUSD Host Teacher, Classroom Volunteers work with students 1:1, in small groups, or whole class, as well as support learning from behind the scenes.

  1. Classroom Volunteers (CVs) work in classrooms, gardens, and libraries. They are matched with BUSD Host Staff and commit to at least one hour a week.
  • Work in one specific placement, either on a long-term/on-going basis
  • Classroom Volunteers use this Classroom Volunteer application
  • Classroom Volunteers follow the process of applying, attending orientation, and getting fingerprinted (for non-parents only) with BSV, and then being approved by classroom teachers
  • The Commitment: A minimum of a one hour/week commitment through the end of the school year. Some volunteers choose to support more than one classroom at the same time.
