ORGANIZATION: I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation

Overview:

We are looking for an energetic and experienced DIY Crafts Instructor with a passion for working with teens and young children. The selected volunteer will facilitate virtual classes teaching youth how to express themselves through crafts and design.


Volunteer Duties:

  • Conduct virtual classes for a group of students once or twice per week
  • Must draft a full curriculum that outlines all lessons from week-to-week and materials needed to perform projects.
  • Teach students the fundamentals of imagery, color, shapes, and typography.
  • Demonstrate the working knowledge of visual design principles and techniques
  • Prepare students for a virtual showcase in December 2021.
  • Complete weekly session notes following each class
  • Regularly communicate with parents to provide updates on their child’s progress, reminders about upcoming sessions, materials list for individual sessions, and other communications as needed.
  • Maintain consistent communication with program directors via email and participation in scheduled facilitator meetings to update on student progress, class attendance, etc.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Prior experience in Arts and Crafts
  • Prior teaching experience working with teens and young children is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • A degree or certification in Art or Visual Arts is a plus but not required
  • Must be 18+ years old

We have been providing free tutoring, mentoring and coaching services, virtual performance classes, college preparation program, nutrition workshops, and parent education program. As a minority led non-profit organization with leaders that are women of colors, we feel so much pride and we are so proud being able to provide beneficial resources to the children in under-resourced areas in New York City in-person and multiple-states virtually. And we have been successful in providing these services because of our volunteers.
