Tuesdays 5:30-7:30pm

Coach a small team of clients, staff, and board members from a local addiction treatment center as they train for a half marathon in January. Help people enjoy the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of regular exercise. Create a non-competitive, supportive environment as you encourage these beginning runners to joyfully achieve this challenging goal together.

If you are an experienced distance runner and want to use your passion for exercise to help people overcome addiction, look no further. If you don't know a lot about addiction, no problem, we'll teach you. If you have personal experience with addiction, that's a plus.

About Strides in Recovery

Mission Statement

Bringing the healing power of exercise to addiction recovery communities.

Strides in Recovery is a Los Angeles based nonprofit dedicated to helping people overcome addiction. Working collaboratively with addiction treatment providers and other recovery communities, we lead goal-oriented group running and walking programs for people with substance use disorders. Our recovery-focused messaging promotes mental, emotional and physical healing, while reinforcing the life skills and mindset needed to support long term sobriety. Our camaraderie, support, and warmth offer a sense of community and belonging to all.

Here's what some of our participants have said about their experience:

"I run with the team because it makes me feel like I'm part of something special. It taught me how to keep pushing forward and not give up."
-Noah M.

"Training taught me to keep going and hold on even when I don't want to."
-Jillian C.

"It was a great experience showing me that I could change in recovery. At first it was hard to go even a small distance. But, by the end of the training, I was much stronger and could go the distance. I can go the distance in recovery too."
-Stan R

"Training showed me that this isn't going to be easy and that life isn't always going to be easy either. Sometimes you have to push through the tough times and stay on the right path. You'll eventually get to your destination."
Amy P

"Being part of this team makes me feel like I have a family again."
