Days/Times TBD
Coach a small team of clients, staff, and board members from a local addiction treatment center as they train for a half marathon in January. Help people enjoy the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of regular exercise. Create a non-competitive, supportive environment as you encourage these beginning runners to joyfully achieve this challenging goal together.
If you are an experienced distance runner and want to use your passion for exercise to help people overcome addiction, look no further. If you don't know a lot about addiction, no problem, we'll teach you. If you have personal experience with addiction, that's a plus.

About Strides In Recovery
Location:
955 Deep Valley Drive #4066, Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA 90274, US
Mission Statement
Strides in Recovery is a Southern California nonprofit which helps newly sober individuals grow physically, emotionally and mentally stronger so they can do their best at the hard work of recovery. We achieve these results by coaching people in addiction treatment programs to complete 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons.
Description
Use your passion for exercise and your friendly personality to support people on their journey to long-term sobriety. As a Strides in Recovery assistant coach / mentor, you will walk, jog or run with small groups of the newly sober who are receiving treatment at an addiction recovery program. You do NOT need to be a serious runner. You do need to be capable of walking/jogging several miles while being a good listener and engaging in supportive conversation.
Exercise, and especially exercise done toward a goal and with a team, has been clinically proven to promote the mindset needed to stay sober and reduce the risk of relapse. Training for this role will include an overview of the causes and treatment for addiction, with an emphasis on the physical, emotional, and mental health benefits of exercise in early recovery.
The first-year post-addiction treatment relapse rate is 40-60%, and since the pandemic, the number of overdose deaths has been climbing. You will be part of bringing those numbers down! Together, we will support recovery. Together, we will change lives.
