Tutor 17-year-old refugee from Guatemala in Grand Rapids (English)

We are looking for a volunteer interested in tutoring this 17-year-old refugee youth from Guatemala who lives at Bethany's group home on the northwest side of Grand Rapids. He has been in the United States since June of 2021, and his first language is Spanish. He is a 9th grader at a local charter school taking ESL classes, and he has requested a tutor for his schoolwork and English language learning.
Tutors would commit to six months of volunteering for one, 1-hour session each week. Tutoring sessions take place at the student's home.

That’s why we guide, protect, advocate for, and support refugees. In the U.S., we offer resettlement and continued support services in strategic locations.
Bethany Christian Services' Refugee and Immigrant Services program encompasses adult and family resettlement as well as refugee foster care for Unaccompanied Children and Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. Our services for unaccompanied refugee youth include case management, counseling, housing (foster homes, group homes, independent living), classes (New Arrival, Life Skills, driver's training), and volunteer mentoring and tutoring.
