Position Title:One Africa! One Nation! Marketplace Vendor Assistant


Summary of Qualifications: Under the supervision of the OAON Marketplace Coordinator the Vendor Assistant is responsible for supporting the coordinator in registering the vendors ahead of the markets and for placing and coordinating them at each market.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for:
    • Updating the registration and regulations forms before each season
    • Send vendors an email and/or snail mail communication to let them know the dates for the upcoming season and when vendor registration opens
    • Create and upkeep the vendor database, and communicate with them as needed
    • Make sure the new vendors email is uploaded to the e-list for emails after each market
    • Create the maps and vendor lists for each market
    • Lay out the park or venue the day before the market with spaces for the vendors marked off
    • Trains new volunteers on how to "mark the park" or market venue, and how to assist vendors on the day of the market
    • On the day of the market:
      * Sets up vendor registration booth
  • Makes sure that all members of the vendor team have their lists and maps and knows how to show vendors to their spaces
  • Communicates with vendors who are spreading out beyond their space
  • Takes "security walks" around the market periodically to look for any "renegade" vendors setting up without registering or other security issues. If there are renegade vendors, the Vendor Coordinator lets them know who APEDF is, the purpose of the markets, and that they can comply by registering to vend with the market. If they refuse to do that, they are asked to leave.
  • If the VC needs assistance from the Overall Coordinator or others, they should be called on to help resolve the situation.
  • Any medical emergency should be raised to the Overall Coordinator and professional medical assistance called immediately.
  • Responsible for making sure vendors clean-up after themselves when the market is over.
  • Cleans up the park with the break-down team

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:

  • Ability to work in excel, google drive or other program for vendor database, lists
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work well with the public and be personable with all vendors
  • Ability to uphold the policies and procedures of OAON Markets in a firm, non-liberal but flexible way
  • Works collaboratively, team player

Qualifications

  • Access to a personal vehicle a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Includes but are not limited to walking and standing for long periods of time in different weather conditions.

Description

The One Africa! One Nation Uhuru Flea Market (OAON Market) is an economic development institution of the APEDF. The OAON Market is a seasonal community market designed to support Black business both new and established, build a base of shoppers and supporters and build genuine economic develop opportunities where few opportunities are available. . During our April-October season we also have 2 large community events, Uhuru Health Festival and Uhuru Book Fair, both which organize the community around disparities in Health , Education and Economic Development.


APEDF is a black community-led non-profit that addresses the needs and interests of African people. African communities in the U.S. experience the highest rates of poverty, homelessness, unemployment and curable diseases. The African community faces the shortest life expectancy, attends under-resourced schools and lives in substandard housing.
