South Bronx United (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. SBU serves more than 1,300 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, including academic enrichment and tutoring, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness, immigration legal services, and other individual and family support. The majority of youth served are from immigrant families. While the South Bronx has the nation’s highest poverty rate and low educational outcomes, SBU makes a significant difference in the lives of its youth. In the last five years, 100% of youth in the organization’s core program, the SBU Academy, have graduated high school, 92% have graduated in four years, and 94% have gone on to attend college.

South Bronx United is seeking volunteers to serve at the organization’s 11th Annual Benefit on the evening of Thursday, November 18th at the Midtown Loft & Terrace (E 29th Street & 5th Ave). The event is a cocktail-style fundraising event that raises more than ten percent of the organization’s annual budget and makes it possible for SBU to sustain and grow its youth programs. The event includes food and drink, a silent auction, a raffle, and a short program that includes speeches from the Executive Director and an alumni honoree, messages from special guests, and a program video.

Volunteers can serve in event management roles including coat check, check-in and check-out, raffle, silent auction, food prep, and service. We are also seeking volunteers with specialized experience or interests including a DJ (with your own equipment or computer), photographers, servers, or bartenders. Please let us know if any of these are possible. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Volunteers are expected to be detail-oriented and personable, as they will be representing the organization and interacting with donors and sponsors.
