ORGANIZATION: Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join us in celebrating Thanksgiving with our DC and Alexandria community! November is traditionally a time for warm gatherings with friends and family, but with the pandemic related restrictions we want our clients to remain safe, particularly our isolated clients. We want to extend the experience of togetherness by sending Thanksgiving's themed cards with words of kindness!

Volunteers will create Thanksgiving cards that will be sent to our DC and Alexandria clients. Some ideas include writing a message of gratitude, fun drawings of fall leaves and turkey's, etc. We encourage volunteers to get creative!

All letters should be mailed in by November 11th, 2021

Cards should be homemade and on theme with Thanksgiving.
Volunteers should make minimum 5 cards each and be delivered to our RTDCA office:

Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria
700 Princess Street, Suite 206

Please reach out to our Outreach Coordinator, Diona Boler, at db@rebuildingtogetherdca.org if you have any questions or concerns.

Mission Statement

Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives. Our vision for DC and Alexandria is a vibrant community where people of all income groups and cultures live in safe and healthy homes. We are working towards this goal by: • Repairing and rehabilitating homes free of cost for those in need, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, military veterans, and families with children • Revitalizing communities by improving common spaces and schools serving low-income neighborhoods • Creating affordable housing in DC and Alexandria,VA

Description

Rebuilding Together was created out of a fundamental belief that all people deserve to live independently in safe, warm and comfortable housing. This is best accomplished by preserving the existing homes of homeowners in order to ensure that they are not forced to choose between home repairs and food, heat or medicine. The priorities for our work include emergency repairs, safety modifications, and energy efficiency upgrades.

Hundreds of volunteers associated with local companies, places of worship and community organizations work on National Rebuilding Day, the last Saturday of April. Last April, 880+ volunteers worked on 45 homes our community and provides a great team-building experience for our wonderful volunteer teams.
Throughout the past 33 years, Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria has played an integral part in keeping low-income homeowners in their own homes and non-profit organizations free of costly repair expenses in the City of Alexandria and the District of Columbia. On a larger scale, the work that we do on a year-round basis helps preserve home ownership and affordable housing in the City of Alexandria.
