Our friends at LA River X are looking for volunteers to grow their community-based digital storytelling program. You can be part of this wonderful initiative.
LA River X is a grassroots project that amplifies community storytelling about the Los Angeles River. Their mission is to create an online gallery and archive of the river, capturing it at this moment in time, and prompting conversations about its past and future. They empower people and organizations to guest host the Instagram accounts for a week, posting something each day. It's bilingual, so hosts can submit their written materials in either English or Spanish. Hosts have the option to have their content added to the Mellon-funded Western Water Archives as part of a collaboration between LA River X and The Claremont Colleges. Since launching in July 2019, LA River X has welcomed forty-two guest hosts, whose posts have gathered more than 41,000 likes, 1500 comments, and almost 40,000 views from a growing community of around 2000 followers. You'll find more information at http://goodisbetter.net/lariverx/.
Volunteering with LA River X is a chance to develop (or make use of) your LA River knowledge, make new friends, and gain experience in translation, design, curation, public programming, grants development, and more. The role will be shaped to fit your skills, interests and priorities. You can also attend team meetings at the river and receive invitations to various social and educational events.
